What To Do If You've Been Scammed

Act quickly — the sooner you respond, the better your chances of recovery.

If you are in immediate physical danger, call SAPS on 10111 or 112 right now.

1Stop all contact immediately

Do not respond to further messages or calls. Block the number or email. Do not send any more money, even if threatened.

2Secure your accounts

Change passwords on your banking apps, email, and social media. Enable two-factor authentication. If your SIM may be compromised, contact your mobile network immediately.

3Contact your bank

Call your bank's fraud line immediately if money was transferred. Request a reversal or freeze on the destination account. South African banks are required to act quickly on fraud reports.

4Report to SAPS

Open a case at your nearest police station or call 10111. Get a case reference number. This is required for insurance claims and bank investigations.

5Report to SABRIC
