Privacy Policy

1. What we collect

When you submit a scam report, we collect only the information you choose to provide: a description of the scam, contact details used by the scammer (phone numbers, email addresses, website URLs), and optionally a city and province.

We do not collect your name, your personal contact details, or any information that would identify you as the reporter. Reports are anonymous by default.

When you visit the site, standard web server logs may record your IP address, browser type, and pages visited. This data is used only for security and performance monitoring and is not linked to individual reports.

2. How we use your information

Information submitted in reports is used to:

  • Publish a searchable record to warn other potential victims
  • Identify patterns across multiple reports of the same scam
  • Generate aggregate statistics (e.g. total reports by type)

We do not sell, rent, or share individual report data with third parties for marketing purposes.

3. Public nature of reports

Reports submitted to Scams Directory are published publicly. This includes scammer contact details, descriptions, and any other information you provide. Do not include your own personal information in a report.

4. Cookies and tracking

We use minimal browser storage (localStorage) to remember preferences such as whether you have already indicated you experienced a particular scam. We do not use advertising cookies or cross-site tracking.

5. Data retention

Scam reports are retained indefinitely to maintain a useful historical record. If you believe a report contains inaccurate information, please contact us to request a correction or removal.

6. Third-party services

The site may use third-party infrastructure providers (hosting, databases). These providers process data on our behalf and are bound by their own privacy policies. We do not share identifiable user data with them beyond what is necessary to operate the service.

7. Your rights

You have the right to request access to, correction of, or deletion of any personal data we hold about you. Since reports are anonymous, we may not be able to link a report to you without additional context.

8. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. The date at the top of this page will reflect the most recent revision. Continued use of the site after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.

9. Contact

For privacy-related queries, please reach out via the contact information listed on the site.
