About Scams Directory

Scams Directory is South Africa's open platform for reporting, searching, and identifying scams. It exists because scammers rely on isolation — each victim thinks they're alone. We make the pattern visible.

Why this exists

South Africans lose billions of rands to scams every year. Most victims never report formally, and those who do often find the process slow and discouraging. Existing resources are fragmented — buried in news articles, Facebook groups, or police report queues that go nowhere.

Scams Directory gives anyone a simple way to document what happened and immediately add to a searchable, public record. A phone number reported in Cape Town today can warn someone in Johannesburg tomorrow.

What we stand for

Community-powered protection

Every report adds to a shared knowledge base that helps the next person recognise a scam before they become a victim.

Open and anonymous

Anyone can report — no account required. We ask only for what's needed to warn others.

Built for South Africa

From WhatsApp phishing to fake EFT proofs, the scams here are the ones South Africans actually face every day.

Transparent data

Report counts, contact details, and known patterns are public. The more people contribute, the more accurate the picture becomes.

What we are not

We are not a law enforcement agency. We cannot investigate scams, freeze accounts, or guarantee that reported information is accurate. Reports are submitted by members of the public and reflect their personal experience.

If you have been a victim of a scam, please also report to the South African Police Service (SAPS) and your bank.
